Hair girls

Still from the park, the girls show off their 'naturally messy' hair.

Beach

November is one of the best times to visit the beach around here. On Sunday, the sky was clear blue, with a light breeze coming off the ocean, perfect for flying kites:

Of course, what could be better than swinging at the beach playground?

Turtling

The girls have been more open to doing turtle things with their dad.

They watched a necropsy in the backyard:

They really liked wearing gloves:

Linden made an early morning run (6am) to drop off turtles at a charter boat in Morehead City:

Running and Tumbling

The girls love to run, climb, and tumble:

Park

A glorious Saturday in November in Beaufort made a perfect outing to Freedom Park:

The girls always gravitate towards the swings, at least initially:

And lots of tackling on the soccer pitch:

Halloween

Halloween 2009 was pretty much like Halloween 2008: Linden went as a ladybug, Jemma as a zebra. The big difference was that Jemma actually made it out the front door this year.

The girls were a little scared by the witches, and terrified by the life-sized animatronic Jason of "Halloween" movies that someone set up on the porch. They wanted to go home after about 15 minutes, but we made them visit the house of Dr. Rule, their pediatrician:

We also stopped at a house on Marsh Street, where someone went through great trouble getting dressed up as Sam, complete with a life-sized plate of green eggs and ham. Too bad people ignore Marsh Street in favor of Ann St. (a difference of one block).

Pool days

We had extended summer weather this year, into early October. We all took advantage of the warm temperatures and the pool at the beach house that was rented by the Campbell clan when they visited last week (with fair use of the outdoor hot-tub too).

Dancing

Jemma and Linden are now enrolled in Dance Class - free form for Jem, ballet/tap for Linden. They both enjoy dressing up in their dance outfits, although Jemma seems to prefer remaining in her outfit as long as possible after the class....

Nest Excavation Redux

We took the girls to another loggerhead turtle nest excavation on Pine Knoll Shores this week (note excellent dusk sky colors). Most everyone was interested in watching the little hatchlings make their way down to the water:

Of course, our girls were more interested in playing at or in the water themselves:

Late August beach visit

Last Thursday, while Lisa was away, I thought the girls would enjoy attending a sea turtle nest excavation on Atlantic Beach in the late afternoon. I thought that if I didn't bring their bathing suits, they wouldn't go into the water. It started off promising, but went from wet toes to wet ankles to wet knees quickly, ending with the girls being practically sucked into the surf (the waves were starting to get big from Hurricane Bill). Then they stripped when I asked them to wash their legs off in the public shower, and they rode home sans vetements in their car seats. The first photo is the nest excavation - they never made it that far down the beach.
